The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack
The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be building momentum.
Recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
