Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was expected for questions to be asked about his position following a further heavy loss against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, representing the team's worst streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a tough night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got significant support from above,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to change things and secure a win of course but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with The Board
When asked to provide details on his discussions with the team officials, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “Through standard conversations we have I perceive the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Response
Slot lamented recurring shortcomings from his squad in their European loss, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder said.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a spell like this with performances this poor.”
Jones stated, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we’re always going to compete.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
