Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Major Extension for Two More Seasons.

Last October, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the channel launched a completely new animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. During a period often defined by dark humor, this show's earnestness struck a chord and turned it into a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

A President's Endorsement

The official statement also included laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about watching this endearing family go about their simple existence.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing layer of irony. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.

“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

The Path Forward

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well catalyze that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to experience the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
